For 2012, the XC90 lost the 4.4L V8 available last year, so now all models are powered by the same 3.2L inline-6-cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower and 236 lb-feet of torque. The only transmission available is a 6-speed Geartronic automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard on the 3.2, while all-wheel drive with Instant Traction is optional.
Even the base trim comes with dozens of standard features that include a power moonroof, rear fog lamps, heated mirrors that include integrated turn signals, tilt/telescoping steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, a 70/30 split tailgate, an 8-speaker stereo that features SIRIUS satellite radio and HD radio, 3 rows of leather-trimmed seats, remote keyless entry and 3-zone climate control.
Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes with emergency brake assistance, stability and traction control, roll stability control, tire pressure monitoring and a host of airbags.
The new lineup for 2012 includes the impressive standard equipment list, but also add features depending on trim level.
The Premier Plus trim adds active bi-xenon HID headlamps, wood trim, HomeLink universal garage door opener and a compass.
The Platinum adds navigation, a premium sound system and rearview camera. Options include a blind-spot warning system, rear-seat entertainment DVD player and heated front seats.
The R-Design upgrades the wheels to a 20-inch size for 2012, but also comes with specially tuned sport suspension, skid plates, a bumper bar, unique leather seat trim, chronometer-style instrumentation and aluminum interior trim.
Options across the lineup include a blind-spot warning system, rear-seat entertainment DVD player and heated front seats.
